Martha’s Vineyard NAACP Branch Elections

The Martha’s Vineyard Branch of the NAACP will hold its 2026 Branch Elections this fall. All elected Branch offices are up for election, and we encourage every member to get involved — whether by running for office, joining the Nominating Committee, or simply casting your vote.

Offices Up for Election

The following Branch offices are open for the 2026 election cycle:

  • President
  • First Vice President
  • Second Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Assistant Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Assistant Treasurer
  • Applicable locally authorized elected positions

Please note: Per Branch bylaws, the individuals serving as President, Secretary, and Treasurer may not be related to one another by blood, marriage, common-law marriage, or adoption.

Candidate Eligibility:

  • Live and/or work within the Branch’s jurisdiction
  • Be a member in good standing of the Martha’s Vineyard Branch
  • Have been a bona fide Branch member by April 1st
  • Maintain continuous membership throughout the election process.

Members are encouraged to review the current NAACP Constitution and Bylaws for Units at NAACP.org for the full duties, responsibilities, and election requirements associated with each office.

How to Get Involved

There are several ways members can participate in the election process:

  • Run for office — bring your experience, ideas, and commitment to Branch leadership
  • Join the Nominating Committee — help identify and interview qualified candidates (the committee must include 5–15 members in good standing; no more than 2 may be current Branch officers or Executive Committee members)
  • Nominate another member — put forward someone with the character, judgment, and leadership ability to serve
  • Participate in the election — attend meetings and stay engaged throughout the process
  • Vote — cast your ballot during the November election

Submit a Letter of Intent

Members interested in running for office, seeking an Executive Committee position, or serving on the Nominating Committee are asked to submit a Letter of Intent to:

Your Letter of Intent should include:

  1. Your name
  2. Contact information
  3. The office or committee you’re interested in
  4. A brief statement explaining your interest
  5. Written consent to be considered for nomination (required if running for office)

Note: A Letter of Intent documents your interest and consent but does not replace any formal nomination petition, certification, or other election requirement established by the NAACP Bylaws for Units, the Branch Election Manual, or the National Office.

2026 Election Timeline

September

Elect the Nominating Committee
Nominating Committee conducts candidate interviews

October

Nominating Committee announces its candidate slate
Nominations may be accepted from the floor
Election Supervisory Committee is elected
Secretary collects consent forms and forwards them to the National Office

November

Branch election takes place
Incoming Secretary completes the Officer Update Form
